# Activate and renew Opia offline

Activate Opia without an internet connection and understand Managed Network Unit capacity.

> Applies to Opia 26.8.1.

## No online activation

Opia validates a signed licence locally. The Opia workstation does not need to connect to an internet activation service. Instead, export a licence request, obtain a signed licence through your authorised route and import it back into Opia.

## Activate Opia

1. Confirm the Opia Agent is running.
1. Open Settings → Licensing and select Generate Licence Request.
1. Select Export Licence Request and save the `.opiareq` file.
1. Transfer the request through your authorised supplier or licence portal.
1. Return the issued `.opialic` file to the Opia workstation and select Import Licence.
1. Select Revalidate Licence.
1. Confirm the customer, type, validity dates, Managed Network Unit capacity, consumption and entitlements are as expected.

## What the licence is bound to

The licence is bound to this Opia installation and its machine identity. Reimaging, substantial hardware replacement or loss of retained installation state can require a new licence request and reissue.

## Managed Network Unit capacity

A standalone physical network appliance consumes one Managed Network Unit. Each present physical stack member consumes one unit. Trusted multi-chassis evidence consumes one per chassis. A device without enough evidence provisionally consumes one unit until fingerprint or inventory collection verifies its physical makeup. Reliable chassis serials help prevent duplicate logical records from double-counting the same physical hardware.

Adding/importing devices is blocked if the projected physical-unit consumption would exceed the licensed capacity. Existing records and collected data are retained.

## Common licence states

| Status | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Agent unavailable or stale | Restore the Agent first; cached display information is not licence authority. |
| No licence | Generate and export a request, then import the issued file. |
| Invalid or unsupported | Confirm that the licence was issued for this Opia installation and is valid for the installed product; request a corrected licence if needed. |
| Machine or installation mismatch | Generate a new request from this retained installation and request reissue. |
| Expired | Import an eligible renewal. Existing customer data remains in place. |
| Capacity exceeded | Refresh inventory evidence, correct genuine duplicates, reduce managed physical units or obtain additional capacity. |
| Missing entitlement | Review the licensed feature list and obtain the required entitlement. |

## Renewals and future-dated licences

An immediately effective eligible renewal replaces the active licence. A future-dated replacement can be stored as the scheduled licence while the current one remains active. Use **Replace Scheduled** to change a future replacement or **Remove Scheduled** to remove one that has not yet become effective.
