# Configure your Opia environment

Configure customer-controlled storage, access, automation and support settings.

> Applies to Opia 26.8.1.

Settings contains the customer-controlled options for storage, device access, automation, notifications, diagnostics and licensing. Most routine changes can be made from a normal Product Administrator session without running Opia as administrator.

## Settings areas

| Area | What you use it for |
| --- | --- |
| General | Environment name, date/time presentation and light/dark appearance. |
| Backup Storage | Backup/report locations and retention. |
| Device Access | Credential profiles, SSH/connection defaults and device access. |
| Automation Defaults | Default scheduling and execution behaviour. |
| Notifications | SMTP transport, sender/destinations and supported alert categories. |
| Access & Roles | Current Windows identity, available product roles and authentication status. |
| Diagnostics | Logs, database health, support bundles and support actions. |
| About | Product version/build, licence status, support information, documentation and legal notices. |
| Licensing | Licence requests, import/revalidation, capacity, entitlements and active/scheduled licence state. |

## Storage

Operational data defaults to `%ProgramData%\Opia\Data`. Licensing remains protected under `%ProgramData%\Opia\Licensing`. Settings shows the effective backup, report, log and support-bundle paths. Use fully qualified machine paths for supported overrides; avoid relative paths or user-profile variables for shared operational storage.

## Device access and credentials

Credential and SMTP password changes are sent securely to the Agent. The desktop application does not display saved passwords back to the user. After changing the Agent service identity or credential backend, revalidate affected credentials before relying on unattended work.

## Notifications

Configure SMTP, save the settings and run the available test before relying on email notifications. If the Agent is unavailable, notification testing and automatic dispatch fail closed; unrelated Opia views remain available.

## Diagnostics and About

Use **Diagnostics & Support** for logs, health information and support bundles. Use **About** for customer-facing product identity, version/build information, licence status, support information and legal/documentation links.
